Passport application fee in Canada


The following fees below are for Canadians who submit their passport applications in Canada, in-person or by mail.

  • 5-year adult passport (age 16 or over) – $120
  • 10-year adult passport (age 16 or over) – $160
  • Child passport (0 to 15 years of age) – $57

*there is no tax for passport application

Additional fees may apply

You may need to pay extra fees on top of the fees above if you need:

  • to replace a lost or stolen passport
  • urgent and express processing (only available if you apply in person at a passport office)
  • standard pickup at a passport office
  • other administrative services

Expedited services

This service is only available in-person visits at a Passport Canada office. Your local Service Canada centre does not handle expedited or urgent request.

  • Urgent pickup (by the end of the next business day) – additional $110
  • Express pickup (within 2 to 9 business days) – additional $50
  • Standard pickup (on or after 10 business days) – additional $20

Additional administrative fee

  • Replacing a valid lost or stolen passport. You must pay an additional $45 fee if you are to replace a lost or stolen passport. This fee will be charged at the Passport Canada office or local Service Canada centre.
  • File transfer from the original passport office to a different passport office in Canada – an additional $45
  • To obtain an additional certified true copy of one page of a passport. Usually, people are requesting a certified true copy of the ID page of their passport. You may request up to 3 identical copies of the same page you requested.

How to pay your passport application fees

Pay in person

You can pay using any of the following method at Passport Canada office or local Service Canada centre.

  • credit card or prepaid card (Visa®, MasterCard® or American Express®)
  • debit card
  • certified cheque or money order (postal or bank)
    • in Canadian funds
    • with the exact amount
    • made payable to the “Receiver General for Canada”

Pay by mail

You may complete the payment section on the passport application form with any of the following method:

  • a credit card (Visa®, MasterCard® or American Express®)
  • an embossed prepaid card that has raised letters or numbers (Visa®, MasterCard® or American Express®)
  • a certified cheque or money order (postal or bank)
    • in Canadian funds
    • with the exact amount
    • made payable to the “Receiver General for Canada”

Important: Cash or personal cheque are not accepted. In this situation, you may need to go to local retail store to purchase prepaid credit card to pay for your application.

Note: You may not pay your passport application fee online for in Canada application.
